Paul Trynka Starman - David Bowie biography

Selasa, 08 Maret 2011 comments
David Bowie - famously described as rock's greatest chameleon - has lived an extraordinary life. You can read about it in this new and extraordinary biography by Paul Trynka.

‘Starman’ begins with Bowie’s early years in post-war, bombed out Brixton to a troubled later childhood in Bromley – when he was still David Robert Jones.
Gradually, every chapter of his youth opens before our eyes in vivid description, including the first odd jobs, musical inspirations, teenage dramas and humble band projects. We find out how a mediocre singer of limited talent moved on to be an inspired songwriter and musical genius.
Later on, we are introduced to Bowie’s friends, business acquaintances, his strained relation with friend Marc Bolanas well as countless managers. And of course, there were the girls, but also the boys. Not to mention Bowie’s numerous re-inventions. From the decadent glamour of ‘Ziggy Stardust’ to his controversial Berlin period, Bowie's life has been filled with drama. One of our most fascinating but often also misunderstood stars, his story has never been satisfactorily told until now.
Paul Trynka has interviewed over two hundred friends, ex-lovers and fellow musicians in order to write the definitive biography of Bowie. The result is a compelling, intimate and revealing book that provides an insight into one of the most colourful artist the music world has ever produced. At the same time, we get to learn about David Bowie the person, with all his flaws and good sides like the rest of us.

The book is testimony to the fact that Bowie is never out of fashion, and he isn’t! June 2011 will mark the 40th anniversary of the making of his breakthrough album ‘Hunky Dory’, while September 2011 will see the 40th anniversary of the sessions of his influential electronic masteriece ‘Low’. Finally, November 2011 is the 40th birthday of ‘Ziggy Stardust’! As if it wasn’t enough already, Optimum are releasing ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’ on Blu-Ray in April, paying homage to Bowie the actor.
