It's not that easy getting a music video banned these days. Pop stars have been pushing the boundaries for so long now that we've all become rather blasé and desensitized to provocative subject matter. And with videos easily accessible online, on TV and on mobile devices, is there any point trying to bar risqué material anyway?



This week saw a backlash against Rihanna, and her promo video for new single, ‘S&M'. In the video, the Barbadian pop princess is seen fooling around with a blow-up doll and suggestively eating a banana while writhing around in a rubber suit. Not to mention gossip journalist Perez Hilton appearing as a sex slave.

Her antics have seen the clip banned in 11 countries, while YouTube has introduced an 18 certificate. Of course the hoo-hah has hardly harmed promotion for her single, but it did spark a thought or two about other videos banned over the years by the powers that be.
