DJ AM files lawsuit

Senin, 29 Desember 2008 comments

DJ AM has filed a lawsuit after escaping death in a plane crash.

The 35-year-old musician - who suffered second and third-degree burns from the incident in September - has blamed the pilots and faulty equipment for the crash which killed four people.

DJ AM’s lawsuit, which was filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday (23.12.08), alleges: "The pilots were either poorly trained and/or failed to follow their training.'

Pilots Sarah Lemmon, 31, and James Bland, 52 - who both died in the crash - have been named in the court case.

The star - real name Adam Goldstein - also claims the plane was "defective, not fit for its intended purposes and unreasonably dangerous".

DJ AM is the final passenger who was on board the Learjet to seek legal action.

Travis Barker - who also suffered serious burns in the tragic accident - and the mother of bodyguard Charles Still, who died in the crash, have previously filed separate lawsuits.

Travis’ friend Chris Baker was also killed in the incident. His widow has named the pilots’ estates as defendants in her legal case.

Travis and DJ AM were performing a free concert for 10,000 people in Columbia, South Carolina, on the night of the fatal incident.

After the show, the pair boarded a private plane which crashed shortly after takeoff.

Kurt's guitar sells for $100,000

comments

A guitar used by the former Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain on the band's first US tour has been sold at auction for £68,000.

The damaged Fender Mustang, previously owned by the , was sold for $100,000 (approximately £68,000) to an unidentified private collector.

Sluggo, a punk guitarist, had been in possession of the Seattle icon's instrument for a number of years after trading it with Cobain for a working guitar.

The Mustang was later displayed by Seattle's Experience Music Project.

Jacob McMurray, senior curator at the Project, told Yahoo Music: "It’s a really cool looking guitar.

"It’s smashed and held together with duct tape and Kurt Cobain wrote on it. There’s not a huge amount of broken Nirvana guitars out there."

The guitar is the second-highest selling piece of Cobain memorabilia to date, following the £89,000 sale of his Mosrite Gospel Mark IV guitar at an auction in 2006.

Earlier this year, a scorched Fender Stratocaster - set alight by Jimi Hendrix during a London concert in 1967 - sold for approximately £337,000.

Mystery Jets 'Live' In Singapore

comments

After postponing their last date at Zouk, Mystery Jets are back for a full length concert, their first in Asia outside Japan! Following a short stint in hospital treating the spine disorder, spina bifida and taking the necessary recovery time, Blaine Harrison the singer is back to helm Zouk's first concert for 2009!

With their colorful, catchy guitar pop to prog rock, Mystery Jets have been winning the hearts and minds of critics and fans alike, headlining and selling out performances. Undoubtedly influenced by the 1980s, the bohemian, London based band's musical heroes range from The Cure and The Smiths to Prince and Michael Jackson.

With two outstanding albums, Making Dens (2006) and the second album Twenty One (2008) produced by Indie DJ Mash Up Don, Erol Alkan, the results were even catchier choruses and huge stylistic instrumentations. Melodic hit singles like "Two Doors Down," "Young Love" ft Laura Marling and "Half In Love With Elizabeth" have all made the connection between clever indie and wry pop. And the dance world have all embraced the band, with remixes by Justice, Switch and Zongamin just to name a few.

Living up to the hype, Mystery Jets live shows exude exuberance and unpredictability in a most convincingly stylish manner. "We want to communicate, says Will (guitar, vocals) but in a way that isn't superficial, in a way that can make a difference to peoples lives."

There is little doubt that Mystery Jets are one of the most exciting UK bands to emerge in recent years.

'The Hills' Season Five: Who Will Be Back In Lauren's World When The Show Continues?

comments

Season four of The Hills came to an end Monday night, and at finale party in New York, the cast wasn't sure if they'd be back for more drama. They didn't even seem to know there would be a fifth season until Lauren Conrad blurted out at the end of the After Show: "But, there are more episodes. The Hills is not done!"

"If there is one, [I'll be there]. MTV still hasn't confirmed," Stephanie Pratt told MTV News on the red carpet, adding that she would love to date more if the show returns. "I guess we'll know soon."

More of the show's cast said they'd like the opportunity to reprise their onscreen personas another time around. "I hope so - planning on it!" Holly Montag revealed. "I would like to have more fun ... more good times. More adventures. I want to go on a trip."

Meanwhile, Lauren Conrad's former-flame-turned-friend, Brody Jenner, admitted that even with a new show, Bromance, coming soon, he would love to head back to The Hills. "If I'm invited back, I'll be on it!" he said.

Really, the show's longevity all comes down to whether Lauren is ready to give it all up. The answer, as of now, is no. "I know that we're not done," she said. "I love filming the show. I have the best job ever. I'm just excited to be a part of it. I guess you have to stay tuned."

One person who's sure she won't be back anytime soon is Whitney Port, whose New York spin-off, The City, premieres on December 29.

"I love the city so far," Whitney said. "It's so great. [The show] follows my move ... and [shows me] becoming a young woman. It's a good balance of my personal and professional life. It allows the viewers to grow up with me."

Should we expect to see any Hills/City crossover episodes eventually? "You know, I don't know," Port said. "Since I'm out here, and were not filming The Hills out here, it wouldn't make sense for me to be on The Hills."

Britney set to fly to India

comments

Britney Spears is set to fly to India to meet with legendary choreographer Sandip Soparrkar.

The 27-year-old singer – who is currently enjoying success with new album 'Circus’ – is reportedly planning to meet with Sandip during a trip to Jodhpur to work on moves for her upcoming world tour.

Sandip said: 'I'll be meeting her for work only, when she visits Jodhpur. We'll just be doing a bit of rehearsals, since I am planning to do the rumba, which is the dance of love. Britney is really looking forward to coming to India.

'She has heard a lot about it and what tops her list here is trying out the spicy Indian curry.'

It has also been reported Sandip will be showing Britney around Mumbai, which was recently the scene of terrorist attacks, when she arrives in the Indian city.

Victoria Beckham no fan of pasta

comments

Victoria Beckham says pasta is her "kryptonite".

The former Spice Girl can't eat the traditional Italian dish because it plays havoc with her body - just like the fictional green radioactive rock which robs Superman of his powers.

Victoria, 34, said: "It's not that I avoid carbs, I'm allergic to pasta. It's like my kryptonite. I feel like I can't digest it properly and it makes me fell ill."

Fashion designer Victoria won't be able to escape the carbohydrate as she and her soccer star husband David Beckham will be living in Italy while David plays for AC Milan.

A source said: "She needs to give our national dish a try. What could be better than nice spaghetti or tortellini?"

David was greeted with a warm welcome at AC Milan's San Siro stadium when he was unveiled on Sunday (21.12.08).

The sports superstar insists his wife can't wait to set up home in the fashion capital.

David said: "Making the decision to come here this one was easy. Victoria's always loved the city since she started coming here for fashion weeks."

Quick Cuts - Amy Winehouse Dances Topless, Kings of Leon Disobeys Smoking Ban, and More!

comments

AC/DC Frontman To Write Memoirs

AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson has signed a deal to write his own memoirs.

The singer has been recruited by Penguin Books to pen a collection of his thoughts and anecdotes, which he has been compiling over the years. Johnson's autobiography will shed light on the singer's life, his love for rock and roll and his lesser known passion for motorcars.

The rocker joins a list of celebrities who have published memoirs, including Red Hot Chilli Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis.

Amy Winehouse Shocks With Topless Dance

English singer Amy Winehouse has managed to get herself into trouble even while on holiday!

The troubled singer was on holiday in the Caribbean, reportedly recuperating from her drug problems, but she shocked tourists in the area when she appeared at her hotel balcony topless. Winehouse was allegedly dancing and slurring to loud music, and was oblivious to everything around her.

The singer has had a history of drug-related problems and was recently diagnosed with traces of a lung disease.

Kings of Leon Disobeys Smoking Ban

Rock band Kings of Leon are at the centre of a smoking row after lighting up during a gig.

The American band was performing at the International Arena in Wales, when guitarist Mathhew Followill sparked up a cigarette, defying the smoking ban implemented in the concert venue. Under British law, cigarettes are prohibited from all public indoor areas.

The incident is currently under investigation, and if charged, both the band and venue face a hefty fine.

Robbie Holds Bedside Vigil For Ill Mother

Singer Robbie Williams is holding a bedside vigil for his mother as she recovers from a major heart operation.

The pop star is said to have flown back to his native Britain from his home in Los Angeles to be with his 67-year old mother, before she underwent a heart bypass surgery. The former Take That star is preparing to spend Christmas Day in the hospital with his mother.

Robbie's mother Jan is believed to be in critical but stable condition.

John Lennon's 'Drunk' Tape Sells For $50,000

A drunken recording of the late John Lennon has sold for about $50,000 at an auction.

The tape was made in 1973 after the Beatles singer infamously left his wife Yoko Ono and moved to Los Angeles. The 6-minute recording features a drunk Lennon improvising lyrics to the song "Just Because," and has never been aired in public.

A properly recorded version of the song can be found on the singer's 1975 covers album, Rock N' Roll.

Coldplay could be in 'Trouble'

comments
The New Year could prove to be expensive for Coldplay according to Ben Prangell, legal adviser for Liverpool intellectual property
specialist Shipley Solicitors, who wrote:

The band were recently accused of plagiarising Joe Satriani’s song 'If I could Fly’ by the use of a melody over a chord progression in their song 'Viva la Vida’. Satriani claims that this melody features originally in his track.

Satriani filed a suit in LA for "any and all profits" made from 'Vida La Vida’, ironically Coldplay’s most successful single to date.

Coldplay have dismissed the claims, claiming they have never heard the Satriani track. However, unintentionally copied can still entitle the courts to decide in the claimant’s favour and can prove to be a costly exercise.

Beatle George Harrison was ruled against over his song 'My Sweet Lord’ when The Chiffons brought action against him for copying their song 'He’s so Fine’ in the 70s. Although very different genres of track, the melody was noticeably similar. Although George claimed the track was written over a period of time, the court ruled against him and awarded more than $500,000 in damages.

So, although Coldplay have denied copying, they may have unintentionally copied the track. For instance, how often do you hear background music in taxis, only to find the track stuck in your head for the rest of the day?

In the past plagiarism cases have often settled out of court including Avril Lavigne who struck a deal with the Rubinoos, who claimed her 2007 hit 'Girlfriend' bore striking similarities to their 1979 song 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend.' Her manager Terry McBride said he wanted to avoid a costly legal battle and settled with the band.

It will ultimately be the courts that decide whether copying has occurred in Coldplay’s case. But if they rule against Chris Martin and co it could prove to be an expensive 2009.

THE GODFATHERS

Wednesday 11 Boston, MA-The Middle East
Thursday 12 Washington DC-9.30 Club
Friday 13 Cleveland, OH-The Grog Shop
Saturday 14 Chicago, IL-The Metro
Sunday 15 Minneapolis, MN-Seventh Street Entry
Monday 16 Milwaukee, WI-The Shank House
Wednesday 18 Hoboken, NJ-Maxwells
Thursday 19 Brooklyn, NY-The Bell House

Legendary English rock and roll band THE GODFATHERS explode back into the USA in 2009 with their first American tour in nearly 20 years. The tour includes a landmark Saint Valentine's Day Massacre show on Saturday 14th February at The Metro, appropriately in Chicago. This will be first ever Godfathers' Saint Valentine's Massacre show outside London since its inception in the notorious London Dungeon in the late eighties. The London Saint Valentine's Day Massacre shows have become legendary events in English rock'n'roll folklore and The Godfathers are delighted to stage the first American Massacre at The Metro. The tour kicks off on February 11th in Boston and then takes in Washington DC, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Hoboken before crash landing into the Bellhouse in Brookyln on Thursday 19th February.

The Godfathers originally formed in 1985, emerging out of the ashes of The Sid Presley Experience. They dressed liked The Mob and sounded like Johnny Thunders' bastard English offspring, quickly establishing a fearsome reputation for their no-holds barred high energy live show. In the dark days of eighties Britain The Godfathers were a beacon of rock'n'roll light in an otherwise bleak time. They scored a US Top 40 Billboard hit with the storming rocker "Birth School Work Death" in 1987 and became a mainstay of US college radio.

After years of speculation and expectation The Godfathers reformed earlier this year and played onstage together in London for the first time in nineteen years. The band delivered a blistering set at a Saint Valentine's Day Massacre show in London that rocked the house ragged and the momentum has continued with a series of European festival appearances over the summer that has seen the band accelerate from strength to strength. To celebrate their return they reissued their classic debut album "Hit By Hit" in an exclusive collectors 2CD set released through the bands own independent label Corporate Image.

Join The Godfathers on this landmark US tour for a true testimonial and celebration of rock'n'roll.

Nicole Kidman could be infertile after playing didgeridoo

comments
Nicole Kidman could be left unable to have more children after playing a didgeridoo.

The actress appeared on German TV blowing into the traditional Australian instrument while promoting her latest film ‘Australia’, but Aborigine folklore warns that women who play the didgeridoo could become infertile.

Aborigine language teacher Richard Green warned: “People are going to see Nicole playing it and think it's all right. But it will mean she has no more children. It is not meant to be played by women as it will make them barren.”

Alan Madden - a cultural officer with Sydney's Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council - thinks Australian star Nicole and the film’s director Baz Luhrman should have known better - particularly after filming the epic movie on location in the outback of Australia, and using Aboriginal actors in the film.

He said: “I presume she doesn't know of the taboo, otherwise she wouldn't be playing it.

Nicole, 41 – who adopted two children when married to Tom Cruise, and gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose in July, her first child with second husband Keith Urban – has recently said she may stop acting to have more children.

She said: “I have to say I'm not that interested in making films anymore. I know I'm not meant to say that, but that's where it is for me now.

“In terms of my future as an actor and stuff, I don't know. I'm in a place in my life where I've had some great opportunities. And I may just choose to have some more children.”

‘Australia’ is released in cinemas across Europe during December.

Linkin Park "Road to Revolution"

Linkin Park. You remember. That band who arrived part the way through the Nu-Metal revolution and never went away. No they outstayed the short lived warm welcome Nu-Metal received and continue to this day to headline festivals and huge international
arena tours.

They are so big in fact that they even have their very own mega gig at the Milton Keynes Bowl called Road To Revolution which see’s them play to thousands of fans annually. Quite an achievement when you consider how Limp Bizkit and Korn have both fallen flat on their faces.

It’s hard to hate Linkin Park. Even if you really hate the plastic shiny production or the faux hip hop slant they bring to each song, their ability to create soaring anthems that refuse point blank to actually leave your head has to be admired. Albeit begrudgingly. This CD sampler of the Road To Revolution gig offers up a selection of their best both in the studio and live at said mega gig. Real highlights as you’d expect are Encore/Numb and the irritatingly hummable 'One Step Closer to The Edge.’ The former because Jay Z raps over it and the second, well, because its irritatingly hummable and sounds great live. Not that there’s much difference between the two. You see, whether live or in the studio the band sound identical.

Linkin Park have managed to stay the course and you have to admire them for that. What is even more admirable is that they managed to get Jay Z to appear live at Milton Keynes. They will probably never be 'in’ for as long as they play music but they’ve earned a respect across the musical landscape that no other band of their genre has been able to replicate. If you have 'Linkin Park fan 4 life’ tattooed on your behind this will give you goose bumps if not more. If you think they epitomise everything that is wrong with music this will do nothing to sway you. But don't think for a minute Linkin Park care what you think whilst they sup Crystal with Jay bloody Z.

The Killers

Sabtu, 20 Desember 2008 comments

Inspiration has never eluded Las Vegas' The Killers, and it's a damn good thing it hasn't, because their newest record, their third studio album entitled Day & Age is full of their finest songs to date.

Formed in Las Vegas in 2002, the band belongs to the lineage of high-energy rock bands that manage to be both commercially successful and critically acclaimed (both of their studio albums have received endless column inches bursting with praise), and it's almost mind-blowing to consider that without the classifieds section of a local paper, they might have never been.

Flowers first met guitarist Keuning while perusing said classifieds for fellow musicians; when Dave's ad mentioned The Beatles, Oasis and more, Flowers knew he was on the right track. They claimed the name The Killers (taken from the bass drum of a fictional band in a New Order video), and eventually recruited Stoermer and Vannucci into the fold, all of them agreeing that there seemed to be an intangible something to the music they were making, as well as the response they were generating from people who saw them play.

Their debut, Hot Fuss, catapulted them onto the global stage upon its 2004 release, selling millions of copies around the world. The band toured for two years straight, playing more than four-hundred shows, and eventually returned to Vegas to begin to work on the follow-up album. The result is a love letter of sorts to their hometown entitled Sam's Town, which was released in 2006 and spent forty-two weeks on the Billboard Top 200.

The signature first single off Day & Age is the synth-heavy "Human," four minutes of sweeping, epic rock. But The Killers also experiment with different instruments here. "I Can't Stay" has a tropical sound and, as the Flowers says, "could be the most perfect pop song we've ever written." "Losing Touch," meanwhile, is a gorgeous uptempo track with bright horns and grim lyrics that lend it an ominous vibe. "Spaceman," an unabashedly arena-sized glam-rock number whose associative lyrics reference, among other themes, alien abduction. More than anything, The Killers are excited for their fans to hear what they've been creating, though, says Stoermer, "We're always a little nervous about whether people are going to like it."

The people have in the past, and they will, yet again.

T.I., Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry Share Their Favorite Albums And Songs Of 2008

comments
Why should bloggers, magazine publishers and a-hole rock critics have all the fun?

With year-end madness sweeping the nation, best-album and best-song lists are everywhere, but more often than not, we don't get to hear from the men and women who are on those lists: the artists themselves.

So MTV News decided to ask some of your favorite musicians - plus a celeb blogger whose tastemaking abilities have grown to legendary status and one rather prominent radio/TV personality - to name their favorite albums and songs of 2008. Some of them submitted simple lists, others felt the need to explain their picks, but all of them provide a rather fascinating glimpse at just what the people you were listening to were listening to themselves.

T.I.
"I enjoyed Kanye's album, even though that's not really a rap album, but I still enjoyed it. It's different. Of course Wayne's album. The Jeezy album. I really like that record he did, 'Crazy World.' I like the new Coldplay record. ... Maroon 5, that whole project. Oh, and Estelle's Shine. I like that album a lot."

Misleading and inaccurate." That's how Madonna's camp has labeled the previously released statement about her divorce settlement from ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

To recap, early on Monday, Madonna's longtime spokesperson, Liz Rosenberg, told The Associated Press that the singer and her filmmaker ex had reached a financial agreement on their divorce, which would grant Ritchie somewhere between $76 million and $92 million.

But on Wednesday morning (December 17), Madonna and Ritchie released a statement recanting the previous report. "We have tried to maintain a dignified silence regarding the details of our divorce for the last few months whilst accepting the obvious media interest," read a joint statement from the pair, according to Reuters.

"A misleading and inaccurate statement, specifically in relation to the sums of money involved, was wrongly issued to AP this week," it said. "The financial details of the settlement will remain private, save to say that both of us are happy with our agreement. Our primary concern, like any co-parents, is the care and well being of our children."

Rosenberg, who did not return calls for comment on Wednesday, had said on Monday that she assumed "it's one of the largest payouts ever in a divorce settlement." She also said that custody arrangements for the couple's children had not yet been finalized. The couple have an 8-year-old biological son, Rocco, and a 3-year-old adopted son from Malawi, David Banda.

After eight years of marriage, the couple announced their separation earlier this year and finalized their divorce last month with a quick proceeding in London's High Court. Details of the proceedings were not announced, and neither showed up for the court date. The couple's joint fortune is estimated to be more than $525 million.

Panic At The Disco

Senin, 15 Desember 2008 comments
Hyperventilating, screaming and moshing – once these three elements are happening simultaneously, it is needless to say that Panic At The Disco is in the building. Gone are its days of the exclamation mark and weird lyrics (previously called Panic! At The Disco). Now the boys are back punctuation-free and on a much happier note, with their latest album Pretty. Odd.

This Las Vegas, Nevada quartet went from imitating Blink's Tom Delonge and Travis Barker to writing their original material and eventually gigging on the local scene, earning a following for their seamlessly blended mixture of pop punk, rock and disco.

However, writing the songs on their album Pretty. Odd. was no easy task for the band. Bassist Jon Walker said in an interview with MTV.com, "Because we were writing the album in a kind of story theme, and it was constraining us from doing anything. The first song we wrote after that was 'Nine in the Afternoon,' and instantly we were like, 'All right, we were having more fun doing this."

From that point, Panic At The Disco buckled down and by the end of the year, they were well on their way to wrapping production on Pretty. Odd., flying to London's famed Abbey Road Studios to add flourishes of horns and strings, which were incredibly fitting.

Striving for perfection in differentiation, drummer Ryan Ross chimed in. "We still try to write the smartest lyrics and the best melodies possible, just in a different way. And I hope people can hear that."

Avenged Sevenfold Seek Rat-Infested Garage To Record Next LP

comments
DEVORE, California - As M. Shadows sees it, Avenged Sevenfold had no choice but to cancel their fall tours of the U.S. and the U.K.

"I think that once you're not feeling it live anymore, that's how you get yourself in trouble as a band," the singer said of the recently canceled outings with Bleeding Through. "People start arguing with each other, and it's not cool."

There's no friction within Avenged now, but the band figured, why risk it?

"I don't think being in the spotlight too long is healthy," Shadows explained backstage at KROQ's recent Inland Invasion. "We've been touring on this record for 16 months now, and we're like, 'Enough's enough.' We were kind of going through the motions for a while, playing the same songs, so we were like, 'We need to write some new stuff.' "

The band's already been writing some material, and Shadows is promising something "completely different."

"The last thing we're going to do is write City of Evil part 2 or Waking the Fallen part 2," Shadows said. "It's not going to be a thrash record or old-school or anything like that. I know it's going to be a sound that no one's heard -- kind of like when Korn came out, they were the first ones to start that whole scene and they sounded different than everybody. We want to do that for our own generation."

Shadows referred to Korn again when explaining Avenged Sevenfold's plan to work with a variety of producers on the project.

"We've met a lot of new friends this year, and hopefully we'll get a lot of different people to work with us and do something really different," he said. "From Lil Jon to Paul Wall to All-American Rejects. I just sang on the Good Charlotte record. Those guys are good producers. All these different people, they know what they're doing and can work with different kinds of music. It's cool to mix it up a little bit. Like how Korn used the Matrix on a bunch of songs -- they had a whole revival. And I don't think we need a revival or anything, we're just keeping our options open."

First things first, though, as Avenged Sevenfold plan to convene in one of their garages to finish writing.

"Our first three records were written in a garage with rats running around, just with a Pro Tools [recording] setup," Shadows said. "And that's how we're going to write this record. If we upgrade, we'll have a drum set miked in there and we'll actually jam a little bit live."

The band may never even make it to an actual studio.

"It's just going to be gritty," Shadows said. "We want it to be a cool record, not some polished crap just 'cause we've got a couple songs on the radio now. No one needs it to be like that. We're going to do the exact opposite."

Avenged Sevenfold: It's 'Almost Easy' To Love Them

comments
With a band name coming out of a reference in the Bible, it's little wonder that the music of Avenged Sevenfold is packed with thought-provoking meaning.

Commonly referred to as A7X, this American rock band, formed in 1999, hails from Orange County, California. But it was only in 2005 that they achieved commercial success with City of Evil its first single "Bat Country" was a surprisingly huge smash.

A7X released their eagerly-awaited self-titled 4th album in late 2007, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200. The record spawned glorious scream-fests like "Afterlife" and "Dear God," cementing their status as a rock/heavy metal mainstay in the music industry.

Just this month, A7X released their latest DVD/CD package, Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough. Recently in town for their first headlining concert, the boys took a little time off their soundcheck, spoke to MTV Asia about "Seizing the Day," spending a bomb on room service and recording with Jim Henson. Yes, of the Muppet Babies...

Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Eminem, Fall Out Boy Mark End Of An Era At 'TRL' Finale

comments
It was like old times in MTV's Times Square studio. There were superstars everywhere you looked, frantic stagehands darting about, and down below - packed against police barricades - screaming kids ... lots of screaming kids.

On Sunday night (November 16), after 10 years and more than 2,500 episodes, MTV's legendary TRL bid adieu to the airwaves with Total Finale Live, a positively packed three-hour party that was as much about celebrating memories from the past as it was creating ones for the future.

It was a livewire, unpredictable and - fittingly - star-studded send-off for a show that prided itself in being all those things. It was a night full of big-time performances, big-name guest stars and nostalgic trips down memory lane. It was the kind of proper, celebratory goodbye that most of MTV's biggest programs (be it Jackass or Beavis and Butt-head or even The Osbournes) don't actually get, which sort of makes sense, considering that TRL launched the careers of today's biggest stars, reimagined the concept of live television and, whether you realize it or not, probably defined a generation.

A who's who of TRL alumni rocked stages both inside and out of the studio, starting with Beyoncé, who, backed by a cracking live band, poured her heart and soul into "If I Were a Boy" and then flipped the switch and tore through muscled up versions of "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Crazy in Love." Fall Out Boy (sans bassist Pete Wentz, who was with his wife Ashlee Simpson as she reportedly went into labor) followed her, braving the chilly New York night to shred on a flatbed truck parked in the heart of Times Square. Wentz even got some new-dad advice from Good Charlotte's Joel Madden on the show.

Later in the night, a trio of hip-hop heavyweights - Ludacris, Nelly and Snoop Dogg - performed their greatest TRL hits, then joined forces on the Doggfather's "Drop It Like It's Hot." Former TRL mainstays the Backstreet Boys took a nostalgic run at "I Want It That Way," and 50 Cent - who, in true Fiddy fashion, kept show producers waiting until the very last minute - pounded his way through "In Da Club" and his current hit, "Get Up." (Backstage, he had some choice words for Kanye West and Donald Trump.)

And though they didn't perform, tons of other stars stopped by to pay their respects. Justin Timberlake chuckled as clips of his frosted-tipped 'NSYNC past played on flat-screen TVs in the studio. Taylor Swift clutched a TRL yearbook that she got signed by everyone in attendance. Diddy - who appeared on the show more than anyone else - did a bit of hosting, a bit of joking and (of course) a bit of plugging for his new fragrance, I Am King, and the upcoming Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious. And, in a move that could only happen on live television, Kid Rock wandered around with a stogie and a glass of beer, then greeted a female admirer in the audience with: "Hi, baby, you're much too young for me."

There were phoned-in congrats from Eminem and Christina Aguilera. Miley Cyrus geeking out in the TRL photo booth. More former VJs than you could shake a stick at. And plenty of video packages that recounted the most memorable moments from the show's 10-year history - everything from Mariah Carey's wacko striptease to Rudy Guiliani's appearance on the show's first broadcast post-9/11 - and goofy glimpses at your favorite stars' first appearances on the show (a barely legal Xtina, a super-slim Slim Shady, a giggly Britney Spears, to name just a few). There were on-air bleeps and teary pre-teens and even a few "Oh wait, what?!?" moments - you know, the stuff TRL was known for.

And, appropriately, there was also one last video countdown. Hosts Carson Daly and Damien Fahey guided viewers (and the screaming fans inside the studio) through the 10 most iconic clips in TRL history - everything from Outkast's "Hey Ya!" and 'NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" to Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba" - a list topped with Britney Spears' " ... Baby One More Time" (sadly, Brit Brit was not on hand to accept the accolades). The fact that all of this played out before a packed (and really squealy) studio audience - and on a massive screen outside in Times Square - only seemed right.

And then, as 11pm drew close on the East Coast, it was time bring the show to a close. Surrounded by friends, fans and the famous, Daly and Fahey raised champagne glasses and attempted to sum up the show's 10-year run in a few sentences. Not surprisingly, this proved rather tough (and Kid Rock and Snoop's "pass the dutchie" antics didn't help matters much), but it was Daly who perhaps did it best, thanking everyone who's ever appeared or worked on the show for a decade's worth of memories, then turning to the camera, raising his glass high and asking, appropriately: "Why are we stopping this show?"

Good question, dude.

Why Were Britney Spears And Madonna Left Off Our 'Best Songs Of 2008' List?

comments
By now, I'm sort of used to being called an idiot on a weekly basis. Because that's what seems to happen each and every Wednesday when I publish my Bigger Than the Sound column.

Usually, I get 10 to 20 negative - and angry - comments per column (though if said column in any way detracts from Britney Spears, that number jumps to 40 or 50), and though it would probably benefit my ego not to read them, I always do ... if only because I find them sort of hilarious and inspiring (and because I am a sucker for grammatical errors and ALL-CAPS MISSIVES). What I usually don't do is respond to them.

But this week is different. On Wednesday, I published my annual Best Songs of the Year, and it got a lot of responses. Like, way more than I expected a column that didn't include "Britney Spears" or "Heidi Montag" in the headline to get. Some of the comments took issue with my picks - "I've never heard of half these bands!" and "Kid Rock? Are you serious?!?" being two popular ones - but most were upset with who I didn't put on my list (Britney, Madonna and Rihanna, in particular). So I figured it was time to break from tradition and write an actual response.

Since there were so many comments, I thought the best way to handle this would be to just address the four most basic types of complaints. Hopefully, in doing so, I'll be able to explain the method behind my madness ... why I made some picks, why I didn't make others and, really, whether I should be fired for doing either. To keep the dialogue going, I'd love to hear some of your favorites too. Feel free to leave them in the comments below. Also, call me as many mean names as you see fit - after all, I'm a professional rock-and-roll journalist. I can take it.

Exclusive: Travis Barker Talks About His 'Jockin' Jay-Z' Remix

Minggu, 14 Desember 2008 comments

Travis Barker is back at work. On Thursday night, he was in the studio banging away on the drums but took a little time out to talk "Jockin' Jay-Z." Barker just released his remix of the song which he produced and played on before September's tragic plane crash, which critically injured him and DJ AM, and killed four others. The remix debuted on Los Angeles DJ Skee's radio show earlier this week and has since been blasted out all over the Internet.

"I was attracted to the simplicity of the track," Barker told MTV News exclusively Thursday night. "It left so much for me to do to it. The original was already jamming, so I felt blessed they let me flip it. I remix whatever catches my ear and lends itself to getting a makeover."

Barker's favorite lyric from the song? That's obvious. "Haters be like, 'Hov while you still talking money sh--?' / 'Cause I like money, bi---!"

On the remix, Barker replaces song-producer Kanye West's initial synth backdrop with rock-and-roll drums and guitars. DJ AM went on tour with Jay-Z in October, and the former Blink-182 member said he hopes he can work with Jigga on new material too.

"I'd love to have him on my record or get in a studio together and let our brains mesh on some crazy sh--," he explained with excitement. "I love Hov."

Barker's going to have to clear some space on his schedule for that to happen, however, since his production dance card is currently filled with commitments to other rap kings.

"I've been in a studio working with other musicians/producers on tracks for T.I., Cee-Lo, and Flo Rida. All live music, really exciting and different."

Barker has also been cooking up a solo album. No release date for that project has been set.

Robbie Williams to rejoin Take That

comments
The 34-year-old singer – who has lived in Los Angeles for the past five years – insists he is “over the moon” about the group’s recent success and is keen to reunite with his old bandmates.
Robbie – who has had the band’s double-T symbol tattooed on his right arm as a mark of support for the group - said: “I’m over the moon for the boys. I was worried at first. I was following their meteoric return, but every photo of the lads I saw they didn’t look happy. Then they just seemed to take full stride again. Having met up with them I can tell you they’re having a ball.
“I’m really proud. I love their new album ‘The Circus’ too – I haven’t stopped listening to it. I’d love to be in the band again but I’ve got some unfinished business of my own to do first.”
Robbie, who has further fuelled rumours of a reunion after purchasing a £7 million mansion in the English county of Wiltshire, left Take That in 1995 after his relationship with frontman Gary Barlow disintegrated.
Writing on his Inner Sanctum website, Robbie insists he has repaired his rift with Gary, and is on good terms with the other three members Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald.
He said: “Just thought I’d set a few things straight about me and the boys.
We got together a lot over the summer. It was amazing. We’ve all matured a lot since we parted. I’m very pleased to say the differences we’ve had have just melted away.
“We had a lot of serious chats. Everything we had problems with each other about just boils down to one thing - victims of circumstance. We mainly laughed, which is what we used to do in the early days. In fact we didn’t really stop.
“After they left, I felt like a ton of bricks had been removed from my shoulders. We’d put right what an awful lot of other broken bands fail to do. I celebrated by getting the Take That symbol tattooed on my right arm.
I’m proud to know the boys and I’m proud to have been in the band.”
A spokesperson for Robbie could not be reached for comment.

Marilyn Manson 'still pines' for Dita Von Tees

comments
The goth rocker hasn't recovered from the 2006 breakdown of his marriage to the burlesque performer, despite subsequently dating 21-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood.
Manson - who is now said to be romancing 24-year-old model and photographer Isani Griffith - was overheard speaking about Dita at his first solo art exhibition, which includes a watercolour painting of his ex-wife.
One guest at the Art Basel Miami Beach exhibition revealed to the New York Daily News newspaper: "Marilyn was saying he 'still pines for Dita' but is 'extremely angry that she took the dog'."
Manson's collection also features three paintings called 'Isani'.
Although the 39-year-old musician admits his companion was the inspiration, he refused to confirm they are romantically involved.
He said: "I really don't want to start the next chapter of my life by burdening someone with being the solution to my problems."

Britney's upcoming Circus tour inspired by breakdown

comments
The 'Womanizer’ singer’s run of shows will have an escapist theme which will see Britney - who has endured a turbulent 2008 - flee to the circus before emerging from the end of a rainbow following a thunderstorm.
A source said: 'Britney is well aware of what a roller coaster she has been on and she is determined that her recent life is reflected in the shows.
'She thought the best metaphor to use would be the circus. Fans get to travel with her through her fall from grace and her eventual rehabilitation.'
Britney, 27, famously went off the rails following the end of her marriage to Kevin Federline. She shaved her head in February 2007 and was hospitalised several times – most famously in January of this year when she refused to return sons Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two, to their father.
Since then, Britney’s dad Jamie has taken on co-conservatorship of her affairs and she has begun to turn her life and career around.
Explaining how the performances will illustrate the last two years of the 'Toxic’ star’s life, the source added to Britain’s The Sun newspaper: 'The first act sees the miserable star run away to join the circus. This mimics her slide into unhinged behaviour.
'Her disturbing antics while suffering her meltdown are the focus of the second act, which takes place in the circus. She is seen having fun in this crazy world and falling in love with a circus freak.
'The final act focuses on Britney’s salvation. She manages to prize herself away from the clutches of the circus to be reunited with her friends and family.'
Britney’s world tour begins in New Orleans on March 3.

Slank and Gigi Music Anti-Corruption

comments
Tuesday (9 / 12) and that coincides with the Anti-Corruption Day, two Indonesian band Slank and Gigi, a concert hall in the KPK. Why I wonder atmosphere building located in the Kuningan this sudden steps.

Slank and Gigi bring the total 8 tracks. All the players are forced social. Gigi as a successful toss a song leader Rodrigo, who talked about how a leader should.

Slank I also want to lose. Kaka cs. bring songs such as bureaucracy and complex generation of Blue, laden with the criticism against the government. Essentially all of the songs played by the two bands I have a message to do something to the community, such as corruption.

Why only through songs, Slank and Gigi never willing to pay for events that took place since the day. This attitude shows the commitment of both bands to support anti-corruption stance. Its much applause from the spectators for Slank and competition.
