Linkin Park "Road to Revolution"

Linkin Park. You remember. That band who arrived part the way through the Nu-Metal revolution and never went away. No they outstayed the short lived warm welcome Nu-Metal received and continue to this day to headline festivals and huge international
arena tours.

They are so big in fact that they even have their very own mega gig at the Milton Keynes Bowl called Road To Revolution which see’s them play to thousands of fans annually. Quite an achievement when you consider how Limp Bizkit and Korn have both fallen flat on their faces.

It’s hard to hate Linkin Park. Even if you really hate the plastic shiny production or the faux hip hop slant they bring to each song, their ability to create soaring anthems that refuse point blank to actually leave your head has to be admired. Albeit begrudgingly. This CD sampler of the Road To Revolution gig offers up a selection of their best both in the studio and live at said mega gig. Real highlights as you’d expect are Encore/Numb and the irritatingly hummable 'One Step Closer to The Edge.’ The former because Jay Z raps over it and the second, well, because its irritatingly hummable and sounds great live. Not that there’s much difference between the two. You see, whether live or in the studio the band sound identical.

Linkin Park have managed to stay the course and you have to admire them for that. What is even more admirable is that they managed to get Jay Z to appear live at Milton Keynes. They will probably never be 'in’ for as long as they play music but they’ve earned a respect across the musical landscape that no other band of their genre has been able to replicate. If you have 'Linkin Park fan 4 life’ tattooed on your behind this will give you goose bumps if not more. If you think they epitomise everything that is wrong with music this will do nothing to sway you. But don't think for a minute Linkin Park care what you think whilst they sup Crystal with Jay bloody Z.
